CD MIXES
I'd love to give Peter a few cds (maybe 4 hrs of music) to play throughout the night, between live acts. And also, since I'm highly-reliant on my friends' good musical tastes to discover new music, it's a perfect bday gift for me. Caveats: No major thumpah-thumpah (it's just not Cafe van Kleef's style). Although I would happily accept/enjoy thumpah-thumpah. Hmm, how about ya LABEL it: "Ali's CvK" (for 6.7.08) or "Ali's Thumpah-Thumpah" (or something like that...and I'll save it for later). Ideal music for 6.7.08 would be psychadelic lounge-energetic-favoriteclassics...nothing to dark/uber-chill/industrial...think you get the picture.

It'd be really cool to have a couple of "supplemental" spaces to hang out in near Cafe van Kleef. If you have such a thing, please consider coming early and claiming a nearby (ideally out front) spot. (CvK is nowhere as big as Oasis.)

“The Web of Dreams” will be placed 1300ft from the man at 1:30. We will have 2 scheduled events on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 pm to midnight. The first, spider races, two people are attached at the torso creating one eight legged spider. They then have to work together to make it to the other side of the Web. The second event is Bumper bubbles. One of ten fans will fill your personal bubble with air and after it is sealed you will then bounce, bump and run into the other participates in their personal bubbles.
We got a late start on this idea but we know, with some help from the community, we can still pull it off (no fear only hope). We have most everything we need but if the opportunity to assist others in breaking through their fear and gaining more hope and possibility inspires you we invite you to become a part of the “Web Team” and help in anyway you can. DJ Equipment & Projector & Sound at the Oasis

Hi all. Most of you prolly don't care about this, but I wanted to put this on the tribe so that I can actually keep my information straight/in one place. Sad, really, but I don't throw parties at Oasis often enough to remember what freakin' equipment they have. So maybe next time I'll be able to look here and be reminded.

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

Lounge:
2 turntables & a mixer (not sure if they have cd capacity, but I think Star-D is bringing his cd setup). Does anyone remember what kind of mixer they have?

Patio:
Do they have cd decks AND turntables?

Sound:
If anyone knows anything about sound, could you please give a shout---I'd love to have someone who knows something to help me with Ricky Lee Robinson's setup.

Projector:
Believe Kevin's bringing his, but I'll have to double-check. If you have anything you wanna show, please chime in here.

A: The 1st ApRiL fOoLiGaNs was on 4/01/04. The name it terribly silly and somehow it stuck. This is the 3rd one.

Q: Is it a Tribe party? Who all goes?
A: Sorta. Tribe don’t gimme no cash or nuttin’ but Tribe, the site, definitely made these parties possible. There are people from a smattering of different communities—I’m a cross-fertilization activist of sorts and do typically practice radical inclusion. I’d just prefer that true creepy assholes stay away.

Q: What if I don’t know anybody that’s going?
A: Then I’d say it’s about time you delurk yer ass. Don’t worry if you don’t know nobody---it won’t stay that way (we take certain measures). I’d say check out some of the profiles of some of the people on the party tribe and see if you go “yick, they look horrible” or “wow, they have fun” and ask yourself if you’d like to be in the same room as them. You can even introduce yourself and see pix of past buffoonery at:

Had always thought it’d be cool to throw a party at a club, but wasn’t really in the club scene, save from knowing a few DJs. Canyon introduced me to Fish at Oasis--we were on. Add to that my Doorbitch/Greeters, DJs, Ricky Lee Robinson & Mark Growden, the Projection Crew and, ah yes, the Erotic Ice Bar—with its upright citizens who so diligently administer spankings/floggings & iceshots and we had it going on!

Q: Can I get involved?
A: This time ‘round I’m thinking it’d be awesome to have a CUDDLE POOL & HOOKAH LOUNGE. I’m sure Oasis would be cool with it, but I should prolly check. They love the ice bar and all these lovely friendly freaks. So if you have a few pillows to bring or smushables, please hop on the tribe and say so. Kevin, the uberest of dads, is on the PROJECTIONS detail. I just found this on Ricky's website (as I was trying to find a link to his "songs I may have played at one time or another" so that I could put together my "wishlist" for 6/9). This might satisfy curiosity on "what is this Ricky Lee Robinson?"). I hope he doesn't get mad at me for lifting this, but it is on his website: www.rickrobinson.org so I figured WTF):

"Basically, I'm your average rock singer/multi-instrumentalist, who after 30 years or so of musical love, adventure, and extremity, became so jaded with the current state of the art and affairs of both the corporate and indie sides of popular music that I began channeling the cream of my experience by reinventing cover songs that I deemed to be silly.

I discovered in the process of trying to get people together to play with that there was nobody I wanted to play with. So I came up with a way for me to play guitar, bass, drums, and sing simultaneously without assistance, which has greatly increased the weird value of this hobby.

As time has gone by since I originally landed in Oakland, and got to know some of the indigenous life by regailing them with exciting and torturous renditions of 70s radio gems, I've come to a point where I need to make a commitment to being a writer again to prevent myself from becoming a lounge act. These are strange times, and as usual I have no idea what I'm doing.

So we're going to seque into the STYLUS party at 10pm, so we've got both the inside & outside area from 7-10.

PATIO: I do believe we'll have a guest RWB DJ on from 9-10 outside and from 7-9 I'd like to get a mashup of Star-D, DJ S&M and maybe a couple other "thump-masters" from the 'fooligans 1.0.

LOUNGE: I'd like a mix of non-electronica (I might even have a superspecial "squeezy" boy play a live set bit). Pyrokitten (?), Drs. Yo & Fiasco have expressed that they'd be into playing. Perhaps we're covered?

This is the kickoff for Oasis season, so I do hope to have at least quarterly nights there (if not more frequently).

I'm kinda throwing it all together here, as I don't have too much bandwidth to do a lotta coordinatin'. I trust in the power of Tribe.

The fat will drip and the pig will split and the coins that YOU put inside the pig will create a lovely musical symphony of metal and hog butter on a giant donation plate strategically placed below this gigantic mess. BACON! SEX! MONEY! DON'T MISS THIS! BRING US YOUR CHANGE AND WE WILL CHANGE IT!

Pig stuffing with your donated spare change begins promptly at 9 PM.

Yes, the people behind this have actually constructed a giant metal pig; two of them, one real big, one real little, locked together in a final piggish death embrace, or something like that. The whole contraption will be stuffed with money (my money, your money, the jingly kind) and lard, bacon, sawdust and newspaper. Suspended high above the majestic skyline of Berkeley, they will take a magical Peter Pan-type flight around the Shipyard, possibly to the accompaniment of jaunty marching band music, and then will be set aflame and immolated in their own pigginess. Coins will drop magically from the belly and cascade onto a resonant metal plate and other objects of acoustic interest below. The pig(s) die, but offer themselves up as the ultimate sacrifice to the good people at Coin Star Inc. The pigs who saved art! Hooray for the pigs!

I know I have like 50 bucks worth of pennies in a closet somewhere. What am I ever going to do with it? Hey, what if I PUT IT INSIDE A BURNING PIG? WE give the money to artists, YOU take home memories (and perhaps the odor of rendered pig fat) that will last a lifetime.

Come witness flaming PIG MAGIC and more entertainment (if watching a fucking flying burning pig drop money out of its ass just isn't enough): crazy hillbilly MUSIC will be provided by the mildly famous in parts of San Francisco TANGELRS: get tangled up in paralellograms, obtuse triangles and perhaps some squares too! We'll be playing your favorite PK originals, a few groovy covers, our rock & roll versions of some traditional Irish tunes (Irelands 32 is, arguably, the most Irish pub in The City, after all.), and we'll even throw in a Christmas song or two for good measure.

Curtis needs our help!

Our best friend is dying, We are sad as hell, and We are asking for your help. Now is the time to show that “community ”and “connections ”mean a lot more than just bopping around at late-night parties together.

Our friend ’s name is Curtis Coleman. He gives a lot to the world, and we desperately need what he gives. Last year, he was the nation ’s most popular elementary school entertainer, reaching tens of thousands of young kids through song to teach them about safety, public spirit, and most importantly, that they have a voice. We need our children to find their voice.

Curtis now has no voice, fighting an aggressive cancer in his throat called squamous cell carcinoma. Soon Curtis will have neck dissection surgery, plus aggressive radiation & chemo. On paper his chances of survival are less than 1 in 4, but cancer victims facing far worse odds have been “miraculously ”cured when enough people came together to make it happen. We do amazing things together within our respective families, so please, please participate in saving Curtis ’life and prove we can do amazing things together within our community.

So many of you know Curtis, are stunned by this news, and have already asked how you can help. Some of Curtis ’closest friends have put together a plan of action we hope everyone connected to Curtis in any way will participate in. We need three things immediately for Curtis: money, time, and love.

Money: Curtis has no insurance, and the most promising medical treatments aren ’t covered by the county ’s last resort coverage.
